Assessing the influence of organisational citizenship behaviour towards environment on economic cost performance in UAE hotels.Rekha Pillai, Aminul Islam, Parul Kumar & Hamza Almustafa - forthcoming - Business Ethics, the Environment and Responsibility.
Organisational citizenship behaviour towards the environment (OCBE) aids in both environmental protection and in harnessing sustainable competitive organisational advantage. This study proposed a conceptual research model which investigated managerial perceptions of the relationship between OCBE and economic cost performance (ECP) in the UAE hospitality sector, with green innovative behaviour (GIB) mediating and green training moderating the relationship. Drawing on the theory of planned behaviour and abilities motivation opportunity theory, the study administered 479 structured questionnaires to hotel managers in the UAE (...)

Why the BMA guidance on CANH is dangerous.Rosemarie Anthony-Pillai - 2019 - Journal of Medical Ethics 45 (10):690-690.
This personal view draws attention to the lack of regard, given by the BMA in its new guidance, to the symptomatic benefit of clinically assisted nutrition and hydration in patients who are not imminently dying. This article aims to identify how ignoring symptomatic benefit is a serious oversight and cause for concern given that this document, endorsed by the General Medical Council and courts, is created with the purpose of providing a framework for best interests decision-making. The new BMA guidance (...)

Postcolonial–Postmodern Enquiry for Human Sustainability: Relevance of Santhigiri Model.K. Gopinathan Pillai - 2020 - Journal of Dharma Studies 2 (2):189-198.
The basic premise of this paper originates from the contention that the hegemony of the West is unsustainable because of its grounding on a way of life and life vision not in conformity with the eternal laws of Mother Nature. It is losing its sheen under the impact of unsustainable lifestyle and consumerist culture and the resultant ecological hazards, violence, wars, racial animosity, and religion-induced extremism. These trends are giving way to the emergence of a new humane civilization, and the (...)

Almost disjoint families and diagonalizations of length continuum.Dilip Raghavan - 2010 - Bulletin of Symbolic Logic 16 (2):240 - 260.
We present a survey of some results and problems concerning constructions which require a diagonalization of length continuum to be carried out, particularly constructions of almost disjoint families of various sorts. We emphasize the role of cardinal invariants of the continuum and their combinatorial characterizations in such constructions.

    DNA structures at chromosomal translocation sites.Sathees C. Raghavan & Michael R. Lieber - 2006 - Bioessays 28 (5):480-494.
It has been unclear why certain defined DNA regions are consistently sites of chromosomal translocations. Some of these are simply sequences of recognition by endogenous recombination enzymes, but most are not. Recent progress indicates that some of the most common fragile sites in human neoplasm assume non‐B DNA structures, namely deviations from the Watson–Crick helix. Because of the single strandedness within these non‐B structures, they are vulnerable to structure‐specific nucleases. Here we summarize these findings and integrate them with other recent (...)

We answer a question of Cummings and Magidor by proving that the P-ideal dichotomy of Todorčević refutes ${\square}_{\kappa, \omega}$ for any uncountable $\kappa$. We also show that the P-ideal dichotomy implies the failure of ${\square}_{\kappa, < \mathfrak{b}}$ provided that $cf(\kappa) > {\omega}_{1}$.

A small ultrafilter number at smaller cardinals.Dilip Raghavan & Saharon Shelah - 2020 - Archive for Mathematical Logic 59 (3-4):325-334.
It is proved to be consistent relative to a measurable cardinal that there is a uniform ultrafilter on the real numbers which is generated by fewer than the maximum possible number of sets. It is also shown to be consistent relative to a supercompact cardinal that there is a uniform ultrafilter on \ which is generated by fewer than \ sets.

Towards Corporeal Cosmopolitanism: Performing Decolonial Solidarities.Anjana Raghavan - 2017 - Lanham, Maryland: Rowman & Littlefield International.
This book explores the ways in which existing narratives of cosmopolitanism are often organized around European and American discourses of human rights and universalism, which allow little room for the articulation of an affective, embodied and subaltern politics.

The density zero ideal and the splitting number.Dilip Raghavan - 2020 - Annals of Pure and Applied Logic 171 (7):102807.
The main result of this paper is an improvement of the upper bound on the cardinal invariant $cov^*(L_0)$ that was discovered in [11]. Here $L_0$ is the ideal of subsets of the set of natural numbers that have asymptotic density zero. This improved upper bound is also dualized to get a better lower bound on the cardinal $non^*(L_0)$. En route some variations on the splitting number are introduced and several relationships between these variants are proved.

It’s time to scale the science in the social sciences.Prabhakar Raghavan - 2014 - Big Data and Society 1 (1).
The social sciences are at a remarkable confluence of events. Advances in computing have made it feasible to analyze data at the scale of the population of the world. How can we combine the depth of inquiry in the social sciences with the scale and robustness of statistics and computer science? Can we decompose complex questions in the social sciences into simpler, more robustly testable hypotheses? We discuss these questions and the role of machine learning in the social sciences.

Sexual activity among junior secondary school girls in zambia.Vijayan K. Pillai, Thomas Barton & Kofi Benefo - 1997 - Journal of Biosocial Science 29 (3):297-301.
This paper proposes a causal model of sexual activity among a randomly selected sample of 305 Junior secondary school girls in Zambia. The results indicate that liberal sexual attitudes influence romantic involvement with boys. Emotional involvement is likely to result in sexual activity. Traditional courtship forms are slowly being replaced by modern patterns of courtship behaviour. Policy and programme implications are discussed.

We investigate some aspects of bounding, splitting, and almost disjointness. In particular, we investigate the relationship between the bounding number, the closed almost disjointness number, the splitting number, and the existence of certain kinds of splitting families.

Generalizability challenges in applied psychological and organizational research and practice.Brenton M. Wiernik, Mukhunth Raghavan, Tyler Allan & Alex J. Denison - 2022 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 45.
Yarkoni highlights patterns of overgeneralization in psychology research. In this comment, we note that such challenges also pertain to applied psychological and organizational research and practice. We use two examples – cross-cultural generalizability and implicit bias training – to illustrate common practices of overgeneralization from narrow research samples to broader operational populations. We conclude with recommendations for research and practice.

An estimated 6,500 undocumented immigrants in the United States have been diagnosed with end-stage renal disease. These individuals are ineligible for the federal insurance program that covers dialysis and/or transplantation for citizens, and consequently are subject to local or state policies regarding the provision of healthcare. In 76% of states, undocumented immigrants are ineligible to receive scheduled outpatient dialysis treatments, and typically receive dialysis only when presenting to the emergency center with severe life-threatening symptoms. ‘Emergency-only hemodialysis’ is associated with higher (...)

Approximately 11.2 million undocumented immigrants have settled in the United States. Providing health care to these residents is an everyday concern for the clinicians and health care organizations who serve them. Uncertain how to proceed in the face of severe financial constraints, clinicians may improvise remedies–a strategy that allows our society to avoid confronting the clinical and organizational implications of public policy gaps. There is no simple solution‐no quick fix‐that will work across organizations (in particular, hospitals with emergency departments) in (...)

    A long chain of P-points.Borisa Kuzeljevic & Dilip Raghavan - 2018 - Journal of Mathematical Logic 18 (1):1850004.
The notion of a [Formula: see text]-generic sequence of P-points is introduced in this paper. It is proved assuming the Continuum Hypothesis that for each [Formula: see text], any [Formula: see text]-generic sequence of P-points can be extended to an [Formula: see text]-generic sequence. This shows that the CH implies that there is a chain of P-points of length [Formula: see text] with respect to both Rudin–Keisler and Tukey reducibility. These results answer an old question of Andreas Blass.
